Centre for Budget and Policy Studies (CBPS) is a research institution established in Bengaluru, India, in February 1998, as an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit society, registered under the Societies Registration Act. We work predominately in the areas of education, gender, governance, health and sanitation and we are located in Karnataka. While our engagement is high in Karnataka, we also work in many other states such as Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat and engage with regional and national policies. We have undertaken studies in many states in India including Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Orissa.


Overview of the Role


This role involves leading and supporting public health projects, serving as a subject matter expert, and contributing to both qualitative and quantitative research. Key responsibilities include developing and executing research and capacity-building initiatives, engaging in advocacy and networking, drafting proposals for fundraising, and supporting institutional development. The role also includes mentoring researchers and conducting training to strengthen public health research capabilities within the organization.

Job Description


• Lead projects/ be part of projects that contribute to public health
• Act as a subject matter expert in the domain of public health within the organisation and represent the organisation externally. Stay updated on latest research, best practices, and policies related to public health and integrate them into research
• Qualitative and quantitative analysis in public health
• Contribute to the interdisciplinary conception and execution of research and capacity building projects
• Actively collaborate and network with like-minded organisations for research and advocacy purposes
• Actively develop proposals for fundraising and effectively communicate with funders and other partner organisations
• Identify the capacity building needs of the researchers and develop training modules or conduct short-term training exercises to enhance their understanding and skills in delivering research outcomes, particularly in the context of public health and research methodologies
• Work towards institutional building by contributing to organisational policy development and administration


Required & Preferred Qualifications


Skill

• Knowledge and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
• Knowledge and understanding of public health literature
• Familiarity with data sets related to public health such as NFHS, NHM health statistics and DLHS
• Proficient in using software tools like STATA, R, NVivo, MS Office etc.
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and projects
• Proficiency in English and two regional languages (preferably)
• Excellent management and organisational skills

Education

Preferred educational qualifications are – PhD or Master’s in Public Health / Master’s in Social Work (with Public Health specialisation) / PhD or Master’s in Public Policy / health-related PhD or Master’s
