About Dakshin Foundation


Dakshin Foundation is a non-profit non-governmental organisation and a charitable trust. Our mission is to inform and advocate conservation and natural resource management while promoting and supporting sustainable livelihoods social development and environmental justice. We adopt interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches in our research and conservation interventions drawing from the fields of ecology conservation biology sociology economics and law. Our work aims at building community capacities for conservation and enhancing community stakes and rights in environmental decision-making towards strengthening networks and supporting advocacy campaigns. Our goal is to promote ecologically and socially appropriate approaches to conservation and management in coastal marine and mountain ecosystems in India. The current focus of our work is: - Applied research in ecology social sciences and environmental law - Conservation interventions in coastal marine island and mountain ecosystems of India - Advocacy through networks and partnerships with government and civil society groups - Education and outreach based on sound scientific research


Overview of the Role


1. Coordination a) Serve as the primary liaison between state teams coordinate with the SFCC Project Lead the RFS Project Co-ordinator and other international and national research collaborators on RFS. b) Organise and facilitate regular review meetings coordinate virtual conversations and provide regular project updates to the principal investigators (PIs). c) Track deliverables timelines and reporting for the India component and assist in grant compliance including budget compliance and financial reporting. 2. Research and Outputs a) Contribute to the development of the SFCC India team methodology tools and instruments. b) Support the development of ethics protocols and implement any subsequent amendments. c) Support the integration of work across thematic components of the project – fisheries climate nutrition and policy. d) Contribute to scientific outputs including research reports academic papers and policy briefs. 3. Data Management a) Support data management and assist with qualitative and quantitative data integration and visualisation. b) Maintain bibliographic and reference databases using tools like Zotero

Required & Preferred Qualifications


Skill

• Strong coordination and communication skills with experience managing interdisciplinary and
geographically dispersed teams.
• Familiarity with reference management software (e.g. Zotero Mendeley)
• Willingness to travel across field sites and coordinate in diverse contexts.
• High proficiency in English. Proficiency in any of the regional Indian languages spoken along the coast
(esp. Gujarati Marathi Hindi and Kannada)
• Familiarity with data modelling basic R or Python skills and working with large datasets will be preferred

Education

PhD (preferred) or Master’s degree in Environmental Studies Social Sciences Economics Fisheries or allied fields.

Experience

Minimum 4 years of professional experience in research and project coordination preferably within interdisciplinary or international projects and with considerable exposure to field-based research
