Milaan Foundation is a social impact organisation working to impart girls the knowledge skills and social environment needed to pursue their aspirations. Established in 2007 Milaan envisions an equal and inclusive world where every girl is educated healthy and safe. We approach our work with a mission to empower girls by advancing their skills rights & opportunities and unlocking their voice choice and potential. We at Milaan believe in the power of movement building working closely with the community to challenge the social norms that reinforce gender inequality and to re-write the narratives that shape the day-to-day lives of women and girls normalising social economic and political exclusion. Our projects primarily focus on adolescent girls from marginalised communities of India for whom we promote the continuation of secondary education prevention of child marriage prevention of gender-based violence and adequate health and well-being. We enable our goals through the use of technology undertaking life skills-based leadership pedagogy offering one on one mentoring support and promoting community participation. We measure the impact of our work through robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks and have also been independently evaluated by scholars from UC Berkeley and other social impact consultancies. With its head office In Gurugram Haryana Milaan has in the last 14 years worked with over 50000 children especially adolescent girls creating a thriving network of change agents in 3 states of India - Uttar Pradesh Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. Through various state and national platforms Milaan has continued to create safe spaces for youth engagement and development.

Overview of the Role
We are seeking a dynamic values-driven Country Director to lead Milaan into its next decade of growth and impact. This role calls for an experienced leader who can drive strategic direction foster high-level partnerships lead a passionate team and ensure operational excellence across geographies. The ideal candidate will bring vision humility and deep commitment to gender equity and youth leadership — someone who can bridge the grassroots with policy and innovation with execution.
Job Description
- Strategic Leadership & Organizational Growth
Lead the implementation of Milaan’s 2025–2030 strategy to reach 1.5-2
million girls through systemic and scalable interventions.
Represent Milaan as the face of the organization across strategic
platforms with government stakeholders donors and partners.
Foster a values-aligned inclusive organizational culture rooted in
empathy collaboration and accountability.
- Program Oversight & Impact
Ensure the design delivery and scaling of evidence-based programs
responsive to the needs of adolescent girls.
Oversee rigorous monitoring evaluation and learning frameworks for
data-informed decisions and continuous improvement.
- External Relations & Fundraising
Cultivate and sustain relationships with philanthropic institutional
corporate and multilateral partners.
Lead fundraising efforts to ensure financial sustainability.
Represent Milaan in national and global forums to advocate for gender
equity and youth empowerment.
- Team Development & Operational Excellence
Lead mentor and support a high-performing mission-driven team.
Ensure alignment of organizational policies systems and processes with
long-term goals and values.
Work closely with the Board to ensure effective governance and strategic
alignment.
Steers the organization through strategic pivots by collaborating with the
Board on the evolution of governance cultivating next-generation
leadership and building new internal capabilities (e.g. government
partnerships digital delivery systems thinking).
- Finance & Compliance
Oversee financial planning budgeting and reporting in alignment with
the organization’s strategic priorities and donor requirements.
Ensure full compliance with all legal and regulatory frameworks including
FCRA 12A 80G CSR requirements and applicable state/national laws.
Work closely with auditors legal advisors and the Board to uphold
transparency accountability and ethical governance practices.
Build robust financial systems to support scale manage risk and drive
operational efficiency.
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Skill
- Experience working with government systems.
- Familiarity with adolescent girls programs and social norm change.
- Experience working across both grassroots and global contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to translate community-based work into compelling
systems-level offerings.
- Have deep hands-on experience working with or within the government
system.
Education
Bachelors or Masters in a relevant field.
Experience
Minimum 12–15 years in senior leadership roles in the social impact nonprofit or development sectors
