About ARMMAN - Advancing Reduction in Mortality and Morbidity of Mothers, Children And Neonates
Founded in 2008, ARMMAN is a non-profit leveraging mobile health (mHealth) technology to create scalable, cost-effective, equity-based and gender-transformative, non-linear, systemic solutions to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity in India. We work directly with pregnant women and mothers to improve their health seeking behaviour while building capacities of health workers at all levels to ensure efficient antenatal and childhood care, and timely diagnosis, management and referral of high-risk conditions during pregnancy and infancy. We adopt a “tech plus touch” approach leveraging the deep mobile penetration in the country, along with existing health worker networks of the government and partner NGOs to improve health outcomes. • Interventions implemented by ARMMAN have reached over 80 million women and 554,592 health workers across 27 states to date. • ARMMAN has received several awards and honours including the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship 2020 and MIT Elevate Prize 2021, as well as grants from Co-Impact, Google.org, USAID, and others.

Overview of the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Architect to lead the architecture, engineering execution, and technology modernization of our Digital Health Platform. This role will drive the transformation of multiple standalone applications into a unified, scalable platform that enables rapid delivery of healthcare products and services. The Principal Architect will provide technical leadership across architecture, engineering, delivery, and vendor teams while ensuring technology investments align with organizational goals and long-term platform strategy. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technology leader with strong expertise in platform engineering, distributed systems, data architecture, and modern software development practices.
Job Description
1. Platform Architecture & Technology Strategy
• Define and own the architecture, technology roadmap, and platform strategy for the
Digital Health Platform.
• Drive the consolidation and modernization of existing applications into a scalable,
reusable, and secure platform.
• Establish architecture standards, engineering best practices, and technology governance.
2. Engineering Leadership & Delivery
• Lead Tech Leads, engineering teams, and vendor partners to successfully deliver strategic
technology initiatives.
• Ensure architecture integrity, engineering quality, operational excellence, and predictable
delivery outcomes.
• Drive modernization, automation, and continuous improvement across the engineering
organization.
3. Solution Design & Platform Engineering
• Design scalable, resilient, API-first, and event-driven solutions that support multiple
products and business functions.
• Define platform capabilities, integration standards, and data architecture that enable
interoperability and reuse.
• Ensure solutions meet security, performance, reliability, and operational requirements.
4. Stakeholder Management & Innovation
• Partner with business, product, and operations stakeholders to translate organizational
goals into technology solutions.
• Communicate architecture decisions, roadmaps, and delivery progress to leadership teams
and key stakeholders.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices, cloud optimization, and operational
efficiency initiatives.
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Skill
Technical Expertise
• Strong expertise in Platform Architecture, Distributed Systems, Microservices, API-First
Design, and Event-Driven Architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js, Python, Golang, modern backend application
development, and scalable data modelling.
• Experience with Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Kubernetes, CI/CD, and modern
engineering practices.
• Strong understanding of security, scalability, resilience, performance engineering, and
operational excellence.
• Experience designing enterprise data models, ETL/data pipelines, data governance
frameworks, and scalable analytics platforms with large data volume in Terabytes.
Leadership & Business Skills
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to balance strategic architecture decisions with hands-on execution and delivery
ownership.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive technology transformation initiatives.
• Strong mentoring and coaching capabilities with the ability to build high-performing
engineering teams.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Electronics & Communication, or a related engineering discipline • Master's degree is an advantage but not mandatory.
Experience
12+ years of experience in software engineering, technical architecture, enterprise architecture, or technology leadership roles. • Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale platforms, distributed systems, and digital products. • Experience leading engineering teams, Tech Leads, and vendor partners.
