Overview of the Role


JSIPL is seeking a consultant to support the development of a baseline research manuscript focused on understanding the drivers of missed zero-dose vaccination among urban populations in priority districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The consultant will work closely with the project team to synthesize findings from a mixed-methods baseline study and develop a high-quality, submission-ready manuscript that systematically examines demand-side, supply-side, and contextual factors contributing to zero-dose status, aligned with the Zero Dose Learning Agenda (ZDLA).

Job Description


The consultant will be responsible for developing a baseline research manuscript based on completed mixed-methods data collection, with the following phases: Literature

Review: Conduct a systematic or narrative review to situate the baseline study within the global and national evidence on zero-dose and under-immunization, with specific emphasis on urban poor
settings, equity, gender, and health system barriers. Data Synthesis: Review, analyze, and synthesize the provided quantitative and qualitative baseline datasets (data collection already completed) to identify key drivers, patterns, and contextual determinants of missed zero-dose vaccination.

Manuscript Drafting: Write the baseline research article, including: o Abstract & Keywords
o Introduction & Rationale o Study Objectives and Research Questions
o Methodology (Mixed-Methods Design) o Results (quantitative and qualitative findings, including tables/figures as applicable) o Discussion (interpretation of drivers, programmatic implications)
o Conclusion and Recommendations Formatting: Develop clean, well-structured annexes and supplementary materials (if required), ensuring adherence to academic writing standards and journal-specific formatting requirements of the identified
target journal. Revision: Incorporate feedback from the internal project team, including responses to peer-review comments. Compliance, Ethics, and Confidentiality: Ensuring confidentiality of datasets, unpublished analyses, and sensitive project information throughout and after the consultancy period.


Required & Preferred Qualifications


Skill

• Demonstrated experience authoring or co-authoring peer-reviewed manuscripts, policy briefs, or major technical reports.
• Excellent analytical writing, editing, and synthesis skills.
• Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods and SBC frameworks. • Subject Matter Strength: Excellent command of English, with strong scientific writing and editing capabilities.
• Availability to work from the office for 2 to 3 days/ week and participate in periodic virtual review meetings as per project requirements.

Education

Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.

Experience

• Prior experience in mixed method research or implementation research or is highly desirable and considered a valuable asset for this role. • Minimum 6 to 7 years of experience in technical writing, research synthesis, and publications in public health or education.
