Overview of the Role


As a member of Group Public Affairs, the job holder will play an essential role in supporting the implementation of policy advocacy and government engagement strategies in India and support for Asian geographies The work contributes to advocacy undertaken by the country CEO and other senior executives in India to secure public policy outcomes that reflect the Bank’s commercial priorities. The work also contributes to strategic business development covering priority sectors and corridors, harnessing policy developments in India. The role holder will provide support on government relationships, trade and industry body relationships as well as policy advocacy in India The role will also support the development of materials to support efforts to increase the profile of senior executives, generating original ideas for policy advocacy, and helping to promote those ideas in policy fora in India The preferred candidate must be able to engage at senior levels with internal and external stakeholders of the Bank, be able to facilitate discussions on challenging and fast-moving topics and understand how public policy is developed in India and potentially other Asian markets

Job Description


Principal Responsibilities
• Strategic client business development for priority sectors and business corridors which would include monitoring the external policy environment, scanning for opportunities and challenges, scoping of sectors and corridors, advocacy agendas for clients at a sector level and support in organising strategic business development events along with government and industry bodies.
• Support the development and management of government, industry and trade bodies, as well as diplomatic relationships for HSBC in India.
• Monitor policy announcements and industry reactions to events relevant to topics prioritised in the Bank’s policy advocacy strategy.
• Monitor political and regulatory developments relevant to the financial sector and assess implications to India.
• Coordinate meetings and events aimed at seeking internal alignment or delivering key messages to external stakeholders.


Required & Preferred Qualifications


Skill

• Strong understanding of India’s regulatory and policy environment.
• Aptitude in critical thinking is required
• Ability to work collaboratively in a matrix environment and manage sensitive information appropriately.

Education

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in economic, political science or international relations is desired.

Experience

5-8+ years’ experience in public affairs, regulatory policy or government relations. Experience in financial services or working with Govt of India and financial regulators is an advantage.
