Overview of the Role
The Academic Specialist (Numeracy) will collaborate with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Samagra Shiksha Chhattisgarh, and District Education Authorities in Bastar to strengthen implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with a focus on the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Mission. The Specialist will play a pivotal role in liaising with state and district stakeholders involved in planning and implementing numeracy-related activities under the FLN Mission, and will support the design, execution, and monitoring of numeracy pilot projects in schools across Bastar district as well as at the state level. Provide academic support to Balod as per the need.
Job Description
Academic Coordination for the District:
• Oversee field implementation projects in numeracy-focused academic areas as part of the LLF team.
• Lead the design and development of FLN numeracy-focused Teaching and Learning Materials (TLM) with state team consultation.
• Develop and execute professional development plans for the District/Block resource group in the project districts/blocks for numeracy.
• Create workshop designs, facilitation modules, and materials for the professional development of District Academic Leadership, Block Resource teams, and teachers.
• Design assessment tools, classroom observation tools, and other monitoring formats in consultation with the state team.
• Develop strategies for the capacity building of Cluster Academic Coordinators (CACs) to provide effective onsite support to teachers in numeracy.
• Facilitate FLN sessions in professional development workshops for SRGs/DIETs/BEOs/CACs/Headmasters and Teachers.
Planning and Review:
• Develop or review detailed activity plans for demonstration projects.
• Conduct monthly reviews of the annual plan and progress of activities with DMs and DACs.
• Document program progress and key processes monthly.
• Provide need-based support to district, state, and central teams in program design, planning, and review.
• Report program activities monthly, quarterly, and annually to the State Manager.
• Track all activities of field implementation projects as per the approved annual plan.
• Conduct weekly conferences with DMs/DACs to review progress and plan.
• Hold monthly meetings with DMs/DACs in consultation with the State Manager.
• Perform other duties as suggested by the State Manager.
Monitoring & Evaluation (Data Management):
• Manage data of all assessments (informal, periodic, third-party) and share with the State Manager monthly/quarterly.
• Analyze and interpret data for review and present findings to stakeholders.
• Maintain updated records for schools, teachers, enrolment, district/block officials, and CACs.
• Create a master sheet of all data related to the program.
School Monitoring:
• Ensure observation in schools (7 visits) every month (Non-negotiable).
• Fill the monitoring format in Excel or app for all schools visited.
• Update data of monitoring visits by officials, CACs, and BEOs.
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Skill
• Proven record of excellent writing demonstrated in a professional portfolio.
• Conceptual knowledge, lesson, and curriculum planning skills in Numeracy.
• Experience in developing workbooks, writing modules, and guides for teachers.
• Good training knowledge and facilitation skills.
• Specialized computer skills, including proficiency in the use of the internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Hindi typing.
Education
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the related field.
Experience
4-8 years of experience in the domain of FLN, especially in early numeracy.
