Overview of the Role
As Chief People Officer, you will be a part of the Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in shaping our organizational culture, leadership development, and people systems. You will work closely with our Program teams in Thakurganj and eArthshala, ensuring our people strategies align with our mission of social mobility and rural transformation. You will grapple with key organizational questions such as: Balancing individual aspirations with mission alignment Building empathetic yet accountable leadership Structuring team trajectories for both immediate and long-term needs
Job Description
1. Culture Building & Organizational Development
• Foster a culture of trust, inclusion, empathy, and accountability
• Design rituals, communication systems, and feedback spaces
• Align teams around shared organizational values
2. Leadership & Team Development
• Facilitate coaching, mentoring, and structured leadership learning
• Strengthen managerial capacity through training and leadership circles
• Co-create individual and team development plans
3. Talent Management
• Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and retention
• Build diverse, mission-aligned talent pipelines
• Design meaningful onboarding experiences
4. Performance Management
• Design feedback-based performance systems (OKRs, KPIs, 1-on-1s)
• Coach managers on developmental feedback and growth planning
5. HR Operations & Compliance
• Oversee HR policies on contracts, compensation, benefits, and documentation
• Ensure legal and statutory compliance
• Collaborate with Finance on salaries, reimbursements, and audits
6. Learning & Knowledge Systems
• Develop organizational learning tools and repositories
• Integrate MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) insights into people systems
• Promote cross-team learning and storytelling
7. Conflict Resolution & Well-being
• Act as a trusted mediator and feedback facilitator
• Implement well-being practices supporting mental health
• Ensure an inclusive, responsive, and safe workplace
8. Strategic Inputs & Growth
• Contribute to strategic and financial planning
• Anticipate organizational needs and develop adaptive systems
• Align people strategies with programs and institutional growth
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Skill
• Skills: Strong communicator, facilitator, and coach with systems-thinking ability
• Background: Experience in grassroots organizations, social enterprises, or startups
• Tech Skills: Familiar with HRIS, Miro, Google Workspace, or project management tools
Education
Management, HR, Organizational Development, or related field (preferred)
Experience
10–12 years in People/OD/HR roles (preferably in mission-driven or rural contexts)
