About the Organization
Swaniti Initiative aims to strengthen public service delivery by working with state and local governments across South Asia with a strong focus on India. Our interventions have included strengthening scheme implementation by identifying current gaps and limitations, providing research support to Hon’ble Members of Parliament about best practices in moving forward, and developing data-technology tools that can back decision-making processes. With flagship initiatives like Supporting Parliamentarians in Analysis and Research in Constituencies (SPARC) and Leadership and Engagement Associate in District (LEAD), Swaniti has supported constituency development and district development planning in various parts of the country. At present, along with working with 200+ Hon'ble Members of Parliamentarians for policy making, are working as advisors to state governments to ensure the delivery of schemes to the last mile. Major verticals of our work are climate and sustainability, social protection, and livelihood.
Job Responsibilities
The Senior Associate for Policy Engagements will support the Policy Team with Outreach to Hon’ble Members of Parliament (MPs), provide research, sectoral insights, and legislative support. The role will also focus on supporting the team with engaging MPs on policy issues through research, convenings, and facilitating knowledge exchange on specific sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Legislative Support:
- Conduct research on policy issues, world affairs, and government schemes based on different sectoral issues for Hon’ble MPsDevelop expert briefings, policy insights, and legislative support documents based on MPs’ specific requests
- Contribute to drafting of proposals and budgets
- Provide background research for parliamentary interventions, bills, and standing committee meetings
- Identify critical policy gaps and propose interventions for at constituency and national levels
- High level understanding of geopolitics, climate change and intertwined issues
- Thorough understanding of legislative tools
- Monitor functioning of parliament of different countries
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Constant outreach to Parliamentarians in India and abroad
Engage with stakeholders including government bodies, think tanks, civil society, corporate CSR wings, and grassroots organizations - Contribute in drafting of high level note for public events and workshops on strategic topics
- Assist and lead in end to end coordination of public facing events
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and knowledge products on relevant issues
- Document policy recommendations, administrative reports, and success stories for larger dissemination
- Comply to all the internal reporting requirements
Actively contribute to communication initiatives
Administrative:
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement of goods and services
Negotiate with vendors for maximum value - Manage payment cycle of vendors and stakeholders for timely release of payment
- Provide end-to-end logistics support to Hon’ble MPs and other stakeholders for events
- Coordinate across verticals for project and administrative purposes
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education: Postgraduate degree in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Development Studies or any related field
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in policy research, public policy, or legislative support
Skills:
- Strong research and interpretation skills
- Ability to translate complex policy issues into clear, actionable insights for Hon’ble MPs and stakeholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Understanding of the structure and functioning of Union and State governments
- Knowledge of parliamentary processes, including committee reports, legislative procedures, and budgets
Mandatory Attributes:
- Enthusiasm to address policy related issues
- Availability to cater to public representatives on legislative and policy matters
- Demonstrated understanding of issues like; climate change, sustainability, and complementary issues
- Ability to produce high quality work in quick turnaround time
- Punctuality
- Understanding and demonstrated ability to use qualitative and quantitative software
- Ability to work on large datasets to maintain internal project management tools
- Fundamental understanding of project management
- Advance level political intelligence
