SEWA Bharat is a nationwide federation of Self-Employed Women’s Associations working with informal sector women workers across 18 states in India. Through Self Help Groups, Cooperatives, and Federations, SEWA Bharat empowers women to achieve full employment and self-reliance. With over 2 million active members, SEWA Bharat advances women’s rights in livelihood, financial independence, health, education, and social security.
Role: Rural Coordinator
Location: Punjab, Chandigarh (Current field locations: Patiala, Sangrur, with potential for expansion)
Reporting to: State Coordinator
As the Rural Coordinator at SEWA Punjab, you will provide technical expertise and strategic guidance to enhance agricultural practices and rural livelihoods. Collaborating with the State Coordinator and Mobilizers, your work will empower rural communities, drive sustainable agricultural development, and foster economic self-reliance for women workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with community members and strengthen the SEWA Punjab union.
- Oversee programs in rural areas, ensuring a smooth work environment for the local team in consultation with the State Coordinator.
- Develop tailored development plans for rural communities in Punjab.
- Provide technical guidance on agriculture, including crop cultivation, soil management, irrigation, pest control, and post-harvest handling.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions on modern agricultural techniques and technologies.
- Assess community infrastructure and identify areas for improvement with a focus on agriculture.
- Promote sustainable farming methods such as organic farming and water conservation.
- Facilitate farmer producer groups to strengthen market linkages and ensure fair prices.
- Monitor project outcomes, document impact, and prepare reports.
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions to leverage resources and share knowledge.
- Advocate for policies supporting sustainable agriculture and rural development.
- Stay updated on agricultural trends and incorporate relevant practices.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain administrative flow, analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement best practices.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in agricultural development, extension services, or rural livelihoods.
- Expertise in sustainable agriculture, climate-smart practices, and value chain development.
- Strong understanding of Punjab’s socio-economic and agricultural landscape.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Punjabi (mandatory), Hindi, and English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Punjab and occasionally to other sites.
