International Center for Research on Women - Asia
Background
The structuring of the Indian economy is overwhelmingly informal, with over 90% of the workforce engaged in the informal sector. A similar pattern is observed among the female workforce with around 92% engaged in the informal sector. Many civil society organizations (CSOs) working with informal women workers (IWWs) have developed solutions to enhance their economic participation in India. Under this initiative, as four CSOs design and implement solutions, ICRW will undertake research and learning project. Through a participatory and inclusive approach, this project will document and synthesize insights and evidence from key stakeholders, highlight effective strategies and document IWWs’ transformative journeys using a gender and intersectional lens. The evidence generated will contribute to building a compelling case for increased collaboration and investments to promote women's access, entry and retention in safe, dignified and remunerative work in India. ICRW is seeking the support of a consultant to assist the team with the inception phase of the project.
