Aajeevika Bureau (AB) is a public service organisation dedicated to providing solutions and security to India’s vulnerable migrant workers and their communities. AB offers legal aid, skilling, counselling, social security, financial services, health care and destination support to migrant workers. Through its workers’ facilitation centres, AB works in several districts of rural Rajasthan and urban destinations of Gujarat and Maharashtra. In western India states, AB works across multiple work streams including informal manufacturing, construction, recycling, transportation and logistics. It covers some of the densest migrant locations such as Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra and Ahmedabad, Surat and Ankaleshwar in Gujarat.

AB has worked and impacted well over half a million migrants. Apart from core work for promoting labour rights, it has incubated several initiatives in spaces such as financial services for informal workers, migrant housing and health care. AB’s research and policy work occupies a significant space in the world of informal work and labour migration.

 AB is now expanding to new geographies in western India where it intends to drive new action, research, advocacy and policy work. It seeks a highly committed, skilled and experienced development practitioner to fill the position of Regional Director (West). The Regional Director is a key position and the selected candidate will become part of AB’s core management and leadership team. S/he is expected to infuse a spirit of high performance in the teams and help gain new visibility and impact in the region.

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide strategic and operational inputs to field centres and teams in western India.
2. Ensure planning, execution and monitoring of initiatives;
3. Oversee, nurture and support teams in diverse locations
4. Facilitate and overview all programmatic services and activities
5. Participate in designing research, media and communication plans and ensuring high quality outputs.
6. Build strategic partnerships with stakeholders across government bodies, industry, workers’ organisations and CSO community;
7. Actively engage with employers, and industry representatives to influence fair labour practices and measures;
8. Design and incubate initiatives in partnership with like-minded CSOs, Trade Unions to further migrant workers’ welfare
9. Represent AB in forums and platforms working to further workers’ welfare

Administration, Training and HR:

1. Oversee general administration and management of all centres in Maharashtra
2. Mentor, guide, supervision, handholding and training of teams for effective implementation of programmes 

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

1. Post-graduate degree/M.Phil/PhD in the fields of labour studies/ development economics/development studies/social sciences /management or similar disciplines.
2. Min. 10 years of work experience with defined experience in the field of informal work, labour migration, labour rights, or inclusive urban development.
3. Excellent fluency in English, Hindi. Knowledge of Marathi will be a tremendous advantage.
4. Good writing and presentation skills
5. Established experience in managing and nurturing teams
6. Solid past experience in the field and community engagement
7. Bold, outgoing individual who is familiar with working in Maharashtra especially in Mumbai and Pune.

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

We look forward to hearing from a wide range of interested individuals for this position. Salary will be determined in the range of Rs 12 - 14 lakh p.a. and will be based on qualification and experience.
