Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic National Communications Director to lead our communications strategy and execution across India. This role is responsible for crafting and disseminating our organization's message to various stakeholders, including the media, public, and internal teams. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in strategic communications, media relations, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Communications Strategy: Create and execute a comprehensive national communications plan that aligns with the organization's programme, advocacy, and fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with external communications agencies, key media outlets, journalists, and influencers to ensure positive coverage of the organization's initiatives and achievements.
  • Content Creation: Oversee the creation of compelling content for press releases, speeches, articles, social media, and other communication channels in India.
  • Internal Communications: Develop and implement strategies to enhance communication within the organization, ensuring all employees are informed and engaged.
  • Brand Management: Ensure consistency in the organization's messaging and branding across all communication platforms, adhering to the organizations standards.
  • Event Management: Plan and execute press conferences, media briefings, and other events to promote the organization's initiatives nationally and in states in which the organization operates.
  • Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze communication metrics to measure the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven adjustments.
  • Team Leadership: As a senior member of the team, help to foster a collaborative and high-performance culture throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (Master's degree strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior communications role, preferably in a health- or education-related national or multinational NGO, social enterprise or multilateral organization.
  • Proven expertise in media relations, event management, and content creation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in digital media and social media platforms.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to drive decision-making.
  • Ability to travel to states across India in which the organization operates as needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in health, education, gender issues, nonprofit.
  • Knowledge of public affairs and government relations.
  • Multilingual capabilities.
