Head of Development & External Engagement

Equal Measures 2030 (EM2030)

About Equal Measures 2030 (EM2030):

Equal Measures 2030 (EM2030) is a coalition of leaders from feminist networks, civil society, and international development across the globe who connect data and evidence with advocacy and action on gender equality.

It is more than 25 years since 189 countries committed to the Beijing Platform for Action by advancing women’s rights. And we have less than 10 years until the 2030 deadline for achieving the SDGs and their promise of gender equality.

But Equal Measures 2030’s SDG Gender Index shows that not a single country has yet achieved gender equality.

Our Strategic Plan 2020-2025 is founded on the belief that good data can help expose injustice, ignite change, and drive accountability for gender equality. But it can only do so when it is actively used by advocates – especially feminist organisations and movements – and by champions from government, business, media, academia, and beyond. As a collective, we give data power.

Rapid change on gender equality IS possible. Join us to make it happen!

About this Role:

EM2030 is at a critical moment. In late 2023 we evolved to a new ‘global to local’ coalition model, which brings together data-driven advocates for gender equality working across sectors and at global, regional, and country levels. Our new coalition model emphasises participation, non-discrimination, accountability, and transparency. Externally, we know that data-driven advocacy to drive systematic change for gender equality is needed more than ever. At the same time, our coalition members across contexts are facing resource constraints and backlash against their work from anti-rights actors. The 2024 SDG Gender Index shows that backsliding and rollbacks on women’s rights are gathering pace.

As our first Head of Development and External Engagement, you will lead efforts to ensure our coalition has the resources it needs to do its work, including devising a funding strategy, forging philanthropic partnerships, and collaborating across the coalition to meet funding targets. Your work on partnership building and fundraising will be rooted in an understanding of external engagement approaches including networking, relationship building, and thought leadership. You have a deep understanding of how Trusts, Foundations, Governments, and High-Net Worth Individuals operate and you have developed proven approaches to identifying, cultivating, securing, and stewarding successful partnerships with these types of funders.

In service of the funding strategy, the Head plays a key role in shaping and aligning cross-coalition strategic external engagement – including relationship management, thought leadership, events, and other positioning collaborations – to advance relationships with funders and those who influence them. The Head curates cross-coalition conversations and spaces to share intelligence, trends, and other insights to shape EM2030’s external positioning. This role requires an experienced senior leader with an established track record of growing existing revenue streams, diversifying income, and pioneering new joint ventures and programmatic collaborations.

We are looking for experienced leaders who live Feminist principles. This role is highly matrixed across the coalition and with other Secretariat departments, especially the Partnerships & Learning and Strategic Communications teams.
