Role and Responsibilities
- Lead Large-Scale Research Projects: Oversee complex research initiatives, including primary and secondary research, focused on thematic areas that significantly impact the social sector.
- Strategic Research Planning: Develop and execute multi-year plans for both long-term and short-term research projects, aiming to create diverse content formats (e.g., videos, case studies, research papers) for delivery across digital and physical platforms.
- Ensure Research Quality: Uphold high standards of rigor, discipline, and credibility in all research outputs produced by the team.
- Collaborate with Global Partners: Forge collaborations with research partners in India and internationally to co-produce and disseminate impactful research content.
- Content Dissemination: Work with CSIP leaders to build a user-friendly library of marketable knowledge products and disseminate content through capacity-building programs, conferences, and other platforms.
- Leadership in a Start-Up Environment: Lead in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment, driving organizational development and institution building at CSIP. Start small, grow iteratively, and maintain high-quality outputs.
- Stakeholder Representation: Support the Centre Director in representing CSIP to various stakeholders, including donors, intermediaries, NGOs, media, government bodies, and global institutions.
- Brand Ambassador: Represent and promote CSIP at relevant sector forums, and publish thought leadership pieces in academic and industry publications both in India and abroad.
- Team Leadership: Hire, mentor, and support team members in their professional development, fostering a high-performing research team.
- Flexible Talent Model: Build a small, dynamic in-house team complemented by external agencies, freelance researchers, and partner organizations.

- Establish CSIP and Ashoka University as a premier destination for international scholars and faculty to conduct independent research in the Indian social sector.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Minimum of a postgraduate degree; a PhD is highly preferred.
- Experience: At least 10 years of research experience, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership and management roles, preferably in applied and academic research.
- Leadership: Proven experience leading research teams at an institutional level.
Required Skill Sets
- Data Expertise: Extensive experience working with large datasets, with a creative approach to sourcing novel data in the philanthropy and giving sectors.
- Research Methods: Proficient in empirical research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and other effective research methodologies.
- Sector Knowledge: Deep understanding of the development sector and its challenges in India or internationally.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build partnerships and engage stakeholders effectively.
- Writing Skills: Excellent writing skills, with the ability to publish research papers, op-eds, and other thought leadership content.
