About SEWA Bharat

Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a movement to empower women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat is part of the national SEWA movement. Established in 1984, it is a national federation of SEWA organizations of women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat emerged out of the need to address the SEWA movement’s challenges with geographical expansion and coordination. SEWA Bharat comprises a family of SEWA organizations to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health and social security.

Overview

The ‘Community Engagement Associate’ will be involved closely with the SEWA Bharat Communications Team and Programme Coordinators in planning and executing the creation, curation and publishing of original, high-quality content in the form of Information, Education and Communication materials (IEC). They will work closely with the Programme Coordinator to execute on-ground outreach strategies for increasing SEWA Bharat’s brand awareness among the communities the organization works in.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

1.1 Coordinating and executing tasks in SEWA Bharat from a communications perspective:

1) Ideate and execute on-ground campaigns to drive awareness about various issues as determined by programme requirements

2) Coordinate with SEWA Bharat states, other verticals and field teams to ensure the timely delivery of communication outputs

3) Contribute to building the capacity of SEWA Bharat staff in using digital media tools

4) Work closely with programme coordinators for potential campaigns and partnerships with external parties working in the non-profit, development space

5) Support the team in its fundraising activities and manage the healthy functioning of SEWA Bharat’s communications assets and tools

6) Support the team in standardization efforts of SEWA Shakti Kendras

1.2 Acting as the single point of contact from the Communications Team for collaborations:

1) Amplify SEWA Bharat’s work through resource sharing and content dissemination with funders

2) Comprehend and simplify research reports for wide dissemination through media channels for the understanding of internal and external audiences

3) Identify and strike collaborations with partner organizations, media, and non-profits working in women empowerment space to promote SEWA Bharat’s work

1.3 Collection & coordination of grassroots content:

1) Collaborate with state teams to collect and organize content

2) Tell stories of trade groups, microentrepreneurs, and collective social enterprises

3) Maintain and update the repository of case studies, photographs, video content etc.

4) Strengthening internal channels of communication to reduce the knowledge gap on rights and entitlements at the grassroots level

1.4 Any Other Task as assigned by the Supervisor

1) Support Programme Coordinator in any other tasks as assigned by them

Key Skills and Qualifications:

1) 2-4 years prior experience in communications at a think tank/government organization/civil society organization/other related companies

2) Ability to cater to programme and overall communications needs of the organization

3) Strong written and verbal communication (in English and Hindi)

4) Excellent communication skills especially in conducting workshops at a grassroots level

5) A knack for grassroots storytelling

6) Fluency in Hindi is required, fluency in any other regional language will be an added advantage

7) Experience in creating audio-visual content (shooting, video editing, building narratives etc.)

8) Experience in operating design software like Canva, InDesign, Illustrator etc.

9) Experience in working with grassroots communities

10) Strong conceptual understanding of the grassroots and passion for gender equity

11) Ability to coordinate among various SEWA verticals and understand and conceptualize their requirements accordingly.

12) Willingness to travel to the field extensively

13) Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time
