POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Global Equality Caucus is seeking a Communications Officer to join our expanding Secretariat team. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional who is eager to support our communications efforts and contribute to the success of our global initiatives. As a Communications Officer, you will assist in creating content, managing media relations, and helping to amplify our message across multiple platforms.
We are a bilingual organisation and it is essential that the successful candidate is fluent in both English and Spanish.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Content: Draft and edit press releases, blog posts, social media updates, newsletters, mail campaigns and other written materials in both English and Spanish.
- Media Relations: Assist in building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, responding to media inquiries, and drafting media materials.
- Media Monitoring: Keep track of international media reporting on LGBT+ issues and legislative developments to help keep our network informed.
- Social Media: Support the management of social media accounts, utilising social media to promote our messages and initiatives.
- Communications Campaigns: Leveraging our communications materials and media relationships to amplify organisational visibility.
- Membership Engagement: Helping to expand our outreach by supporting membership engagement with communications materials.
- Team Support: Any other communications-related tasks as instructed by the Head of Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual Proficiency: Fluent in both English and Spanish (written and spoken) - essential
- Communication Skills: Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in both languages.
- Digital Literacy: Proficiency in social media platforms (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). Basic knowledge of design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) is desired but not essential.
- Interest in Global Politics: A keen interest in international relations, political networks, human rights, and global development.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and able to adapt and respond to fast-changing political events.
- Cultural Awareness: Sensitivity to diverse cultural contexts, particularly from the Global South, and a commitment to promoting inclusive narratives.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Global Equality Caucus (GEC) is an international network of parliamentarians and elected officials who support LGBT+ equality. GEC is supported by a Secretariat of public policy professionals based around the world, helping to connect our members in different countries to share their experiences and expertise advocating for inclusive legislation. GEC supports the work of legislators by providing visibility to their work, coordinating campaigns, providing resources and research to support legislative initiatives, and creating spaces for parliamentarians to learn from each other and from other LGBT+ policy stakeholders.
KEY REQUIREMENT
- You have a strong understanding of issues faced by LGBT+ communities globally, and especially in the Global South.
- You are passionate about LGBT+ inclusivity in global political discourse.
- You are eager to learn and develop in the field of communications, with a proactive attitude and a willingness to contribute to the team.
- You have the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, international team.
- You are pragmatic and willing to work with politicians of different political stripes on the issue of LGBT+ equality.
