Position Purpose: Santa Clara University’s Wellness Center is dedicated to fostering student well-being through evidence-based initiatives that promote holistic health, intellectual growth, and communal care. The Assistant Director for Violence Prevention is a vital role within the Wellness Center, responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of culturally-contextualized, trauma-informed interpersonal violence prevention programs. This position is key in promoting a safe and inclusive environment for all students, with a focus on those impacted by systemic and interpersonal violence.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership in Violence Prevention: Lead and develop comprehensive, trauma-informed violence prevention programs tailored to the needs of Santa Clara University's diverse student population. Collaborate with the Inclusive Excellence Division to address social justice and anti-violence initiatives.
- Compliance and Policy Guidance: Ensure adherence to Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act, the Clery Act, and other relevant legislation. Provide consultation and training to faculty, staff, and administration on violence prevention and survivor advocacy.
- Programming and Education: Design and conduct workshops, trainings, and events focused on primary and secondary prevention of interpersonal violence. Address issues such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment, with a commitment to promoting student wellness and safety.
- Supervision and Mentorship: Lead the Violence Prevention Educators (VPEs), a team of students engaged in anti-violence work. Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of the VPE team, ensuring the success of their educational initiatives.
- Strategic Planning and Collaboration: Co-chair a campus-wide coalition focused on violence prevention, involving students, faculty, and staff from across the university. Maintain partnerships with off-campus agencies to enhance resources and support for students.
- Knowledge Building and Capacity Development: Stay informed on national trends in violence prevention and student wellness. Participate in strategic planning, quality improvement, and professional development activities. Share best practices and create resources that support the Wellness Center’s mission.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for a Master’s degree in public health, social work, counseling, or a related field. A 75-Hour Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Counselor Certification is preferred, or the willingness to obtain certification within the first year.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic or related setting, with expertise in areas such as relationship violence, sexual assault, and wellness promotion.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to develop and implement programs, supervise student employees, and work collaboratively within a diverse community.
